Vank church lonelines serene

I’ve seen a painting of Vank Church (one of the oldest churches of Iran, in Isfahan) in Kimyaye naghsh office (Mr. Moghaddasi’s graphic and watercolor office). I love this scene, because of the calmness of space and because of the pale YellowOchres, and the trees.

In my B.A Architecture course we had a master who talked to students about an Architect. His name was Christopher Alexander.

One of this great man’s writing is “Timeless Way of Building”. I’ve read some chapters of this cool book, and that was such a precious opportunity.

In Wikipedia under the name of C. Alexander and his book (timeless way of building) you can read these sentences:

“There is one timeless way of building. It is a thousand years old, and the same today as it has ever been. The great traditional buildings of the past, the villages and tents and temples in which man feels at home, have always been made by people who were very close to the center of this way. It is not possible to make great buildings, or great towns, beautiful places, places where you feel yourself, places where you feel alive, except by following this way. And, as you will see, this way will lead anyone who looks for it to buildings which are themselves as ancient in their form, as the trees and hills, and as our faces are. “

There was a scene that is described in this book that Alexander himself saw a small pool in Japan in which some red fishes were swimming. The fishes were as old as Christopher, they were about 50.

This scene and its calmness arose such feeling within me. I paint this painting after being with my master and watching his touch of brushes, I think this method of oriental art learning is such a great understanding of orient people.
